Normally, the climate in Chicago at this time of year is frigid enough to make polar bears wear fur coats and retreat inside to hibernate from the cold. But something about this day, Nov. 4, seemed strange, historic and spiritual. A black man with a funny name, Barack Obama, had endured a whirlwind run for president of the United States of America against the political elite—and won.
He did it with a slogan that echoed across the heavens: "Yes, we can!" Now it's: "Yes, we did!!!"
An estimated 250,000 people—black, Asian, Latino and whites alike—covered the emerald green grounds of Grant Park in the heart of downtown Chicago. Most just wanted to be a part of history, others just wanted to get a glimpse of the first African-American president and first family that just happened to be from Hyde Park right here in Chicago.
President-elect Obama has family, like his father, from Kenya in Africa as well as family, like his mother, who just happened to be white from Kansas.
African drums and dance delivered the messages of our ancestors. A Ngoma took place in the streets of Kenya. Chants of Obama poured like sweet wine from the lips of the men, women and children who wore colorful ancestral tribal garments as "Yes we can" leaped from their lips with a joyful tone of the colorful rainbow of American people all over the globe.
The ancestors shed tears in the form of rain three days later as told to me in a dream more than a year ago.
I dreamed that I was back in the days of slavery. I was in an old red barn at night. In the barn with me were prominent African-American leaders such as Frederick Douglass, Ida B Wells, Sojourner Truth, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey and others.
They told me that it was time. The red blood of our ancestors was crying out from the ground for justice. They talked about the rites of passage in slavery days. They showed me naked brown bodies of our young men and women and children drowning in an angry green sea. They showed me black men hanging with a loop from a weeping willow tree. They showed me bloody bruises on an old white-haired Negro man, and we were crying.
In his hand, Douglass held a long grain of wheat. Wells held a sack of cotton, and they handed me a kernel of corn. We danced around flickering candles to the beat of a drum—a Ngoma with the ancestors.
They told me to look out of the barn door, which I did. A white mist filled the air with a subtle fog, and a clear window appeared. I saw the 21st century where a young black man with golden skin, the color of a setting sun, standing on a stage amidst the people with his arms outstretched. A loud joyful cheer echoed from the mouths of the people. His name was Barack Obama. He had become president of the United States—black man!
In the dream, the ancestors told me that after he is elected it will rain for three days. They told me to put my hand in the rainwater and feel the tears of our ancestors, for this is the very place that once owned slaves. Now a child who is the descendant of the people who were enslaved will occupy the White House.
The ancestors told me to keep him focused concerning the plight of the poor and to tell him "Forget not from which you came!"
Mr. Obama, all eyes of the nations are focused on you; so stay focused on the mission that was ordained by God, which he has laid upon you to do!
Be a president not just for some of the people but for all.Beauty Turnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15256886356635079535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6714994628685267161.post-32160010780787455552008-09-22T15:38:00.001-07:002008-10-23T18:28:54.875-07:00A people in perils By Ms. Beauty TurnerMs. Beauty Turner
“A People in Perils”

As we stand in the mist of a new millennium, about to embark upon another long and stressful journey against injustice; concerning housing, police terrorism, racial profiling, and ex-offenders, homeless veterans, and our babies being rocked and cradle by the state.
I can no longer pretend that I'm blind walking in the dark with a cane or a seeing eye dog, I see what is laid out before our eyes.
I see poor people as well as middle income people being forced out of this city in record numbers, and not because of a viability study, nor a Congress mandated law, but only out of a need for greed.
I see the road that is paved out before us, a marvel, hard and rocky road, we have many pot holes, and many cracks in this system; on this city sidewalk street of life; that needs to be filled and addressed, filled with an understanding that the poor will be among you always.
The poor will no longer hide in the cracks of society or no longer bow down and be the foot stools for the rich, but will stand tall against injustice and shall and will be counted.
I'm no longer Sleeping Beauty, I'm wide awoke and is trying to enlighten my people!
I see big company merging and forcing small companies out of business, I see the state taking paternity of our children, and I see young men and young women being locked up behind cold, gray steel bars, being used as commodities for cheap labor.
I see many of my people being issues felonies like Halloween candy on trick or treat night; a scary thought.
Many of them will not be able to vote in the up incoming historic election.
I can see in the water and spot dry land.
A familiar road, one that we as a people have travel down many times before , a road of injustice that have stolen many lives, and many people lively hoods; where every day is a constant battle just to get up!
A long dusty, whinnying road of trails and tribulations.
We as a people have came to a cross road, and have hit a fork in the road, that leaves us asking the questions, that we need to ask ourselves.
Where do we go from here?
Do we turn back the hands of time? And go back into the days of slavery, or segregation, or march forward into a brand new day into Freedom and jubilation, or stay put, or digress into transgressions?
My heart, mind body and soul and every fabric of my being, screams out and aches with pain and is saying, we came to far to turn back now!
We as a people, need to say no more, we can no longer accept the unacceptable!
Our little Black, Brown and poor White babies deserve a future!
No longer shall we allow the strong holds to bind us, nor cloud our best judgments against righteousness.
Oppose wrong and do the right thing concerning my people!
For over 400 years we have been put down, spit on, marked and ridicude in your unjust society.
Too many of our so called prominent leaders hands are in the cookies jars, afraid to lose a crumb off of the master table, otherwise tied because of too many favors.
My hand is not tied, but open wide to receive, and reveal the truth.
My calling is to reveal the truth so that injustice can no longer countinue to grow and flourish like weeds;
growing from the good emerald green ground.
Otherwise it can no longer hide it ugly slimy gray head. Even in high places!

A word to the wise, remember there's something or someone higher than you!
This unjust system will one day surely fall, just like the bricks from public housing wall's, and just like the walls of Jericho, all of this will tumble down one day.
We as a people must continue to stand up against injustice, for God is the beam that we stand for and they stand against.
We will not fall, but stand tall in God's mighty light!
I say just like the days of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Do you have your marching shoes on? Missing on her tour, however, are the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field and every other landmark you’ll find in a Chicago guidebook.

That’s because Turner’s excursion is a trip through Chicago Housing Authority projects, some of which are no longer standing. A product of Chicago’s public housing herself, Turner is now the assistant editor of Residents’ Journal, a bi-monthly magazine.

The tour is Turner’s attempt to share the history, personalities and sense of community that define Chicago's infamous public housing developments. And all of us can almost feel the presence of a kind of social insanity that will erupt like a volcano into a lava of acid that will devour the land with violence and destruction.
Examples: Fights breaking out in school yards like Hyde Park ,Wendell Phillips, Englewood, Dunbar, and others.
Gun shots being sprayed out of a revolver like raid in a roach infested project apartment.
Even in areas that was once consider sacred Ivy League colleges,
(Columbine ) (NIU,) Chicago University.
We need to ask ourselves what are we doing wrong as a society,
when young people are afraid to go to school and receive a quality education because they are being gunned down by their lockers, we as a society needs to ask ourselves what is being done that created this state of mind.
Instead of using an automate weapon a book, that can uplift ones mind to a higher plane, a higher level, their choice of weapons today are becoming guns that can only cause despair.
Words like hope and care, and compassion doesn’t even enter into our children Webster dictionaries.

which could lead to national ruin. The true responsibility for the existence of these deplorable conditions lies ultimately with the larger society and much of the immediate responsibility for removing the injustices can be laid directly at the door of the federal government.
We who are in the city of big shoulders are resting on a slanted messed up attitude that every thing is okay.
We as a nation is facing a morale dilemma, that threaten every grain of soils that makes up our so called great America.
If America which to remain a great nation they must address the agonizing suffering of the poor. And than and only than can they lift their voices and sing in the purist of harmony and unity and reclaim what is rightfully our-Our home sweet home! People, politicians and preachers that is bathes in the same colored as we are have sold us out like Black slave catchers, that hit us with the leather bull whip harder than any white slave master.

We who are black are being barricaded , locked out and forced out of a city and pushed out in a wheel barrel like used up derbies and laid by the side of the road, like road kill, when it comes to housings, jobs, and a pursuit of happiness.
We need to pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and begin again on our journey to justice.
Our Journey to Justice can not be deterred by those who have their hands in the cookies jars of despaired!
Our journey to justice can not be turned around and derailed by those who don’t know what freedom is!
Here in the twenty first century forty years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. marched on the crumbling , cracked up pavement in the windy city streets of Chicago for housings, education and jobs. Can we as a people lay down and be stepped on.
We need to be like gum, crazy glue , stuck on the issues and never giving up on us!
For our poor black babies, our poor white babies, and our poor red, and yellow babies deserve a future.

As a baby boomer who were raised in the time of change , who understood our journey to justices I will not wither, I will not sway, and I will not fall, but stand tall and stay on the battle fields for justice!Beauty Turnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15256886356635079535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6714994628685267161.post-38762480346904380642007-09-22T12:01:00.000-07:002007-09-22T12:29:14.293-07:00Too many sparks of injustices in AmericaThe sparks flew in the sixty when Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
was assassinated, many stores and homes burnt down after Black folks riot in the streets,
No Justice no peace!
Now in the twenty first century Hang men loops are hanging from the tree's in a small Southern town in Jena Louisianan.
Six young black boys are being sent up the river without a paddle or a life line after an allege beating of a white boy.
Black children hauled off too jail like a sack of potatoes after a fight that they did not start only after asking some white kids on a hot sultry simmering day can they sat under a tree for shade.
Hang men Loops hung from a tree a racist statement by any one means.
Still today we are still suffering and feeling the lashes from the whips of injustice that our ancestors had too endure.
I say too America if you are still too remain a great nation then Injustice by any means must not be tolerated
Stop the beatings , start the meetings, and let Freedom ring out from the bowels of the ghetto's, to the grassy hills of the white house to the Ivory luxury towers in the cumbering clouds, to the vast black holes in the universe and let Peace begin and we march out of Louisianans as the best of friends!Beauty Turnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15256886356635079535noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6714994628685267161.post-39953248587120377172007-09-22T11:16:00.000-07:002008-03-19T11:52:52.875-07:00Beauty's Anti-War SpeechMs. Beauty Turner
Anti-war speech
3-19-08
At-6 pm Federal Plaza
In Chicago.

This morning I woke up to a speech that made me shake and shiver, A speech that President Bush had wrote, a speech marking the anniversary of the fifth year in the war in Iraq.
It was a speech about because we acted,
In his speech he did not mention because we acted on a place that had proven not to have weapons of mass destruction- the so called real reason for the war. Was never mention.
Because he acted there are over 4000 American soldiers that have lost their lives.
Because he acted there are over 30,0000 wounded American soldiers men and women where many of them only went to the
Army because they were poor and racked with poverty couldn’t afford a quality education.
There’s over a million Iraqi people who have lost their life’s.
And many more are dying as I speak!

Because he acted the American people are in an economic downfall, a Katrina type world wind that is drowning us in heavy debt! we are losings our homes to demolitions and foreclosures.
We are losing our jobs like a two year old is losing his or her baby teeth. One at a time .
In my community we are still picking cotton a piece of lint out the base of our pocket-with no real opportunity to fuel our economic engine due to a recession.
Trillions of American dollars are being dumped in an open pit never to be retrieved..
Yet America is no better off than the day they started the war.
Our babies in my community is scared with terror out of their minds while walking and being shot down like rabbi dogs right here on American soil while going to American schools basically because of a lack of resources,
Health care there is none, funding for school, there is none, funding for housings there is none- because he acted!
Stop this war and bring our troops home!
Change is a word that is often used in the political arena.
The word Change is being thrown around like loose cooper pennies in every direction. But in order to Change this trend of an unjust war-
Change will come and it will come "because we acted" from the power of the people!

All power to the people!

<br more thing change; the more they stay the sameThe windy city “Spark” letter from the Publisher
Mama use to say “The more things change the more they stay the same”

"The more things change the more things stay the same"
By: Ms. Beauty Turner

There were no welcome signs when we got off the boat, only hard metal steel chains
wrapped around our necks, waist, ankles, feet and our hands, there were funny dressed white men with puffy sleeves as well as some black ones standing over us with a long sharp bull whip ready to hit down on us, if we looked at them half way funny.
We didn’t get to see the clay pot green grand lady statue holding a torch symbolizing freedom and liberty and justice for all that are here in America.
The large amount of sweat that fell from our brow was from the heat as well as from being frighten in the belly of an unknown ship.
That must have distorted our vision or maybe it was the smell of rotten black corpses that made us sick to our stomachs as we took that long voyage from the dark continent of Africa.
Or just maybe the statue of Liberty wasn’t even created yet.
Still yet today the black man is still suffering and feeling the lashes the whips their pain of our ancestors who were made slaves here in America.
“’The more things change the more things stay the same,’” my mama use to say now I know what she mean.
In the civil rights days black folks, white folks, Baptists, Catholics, Jewish’s as well as protestants, and gentiles marched in the city streets trying to bring Clearly a human rights issue.
Big black and brown dogs with mean snarling faces and long sharp rusty yellow blood stained teeth latching onto little black and brown babies feet, as well as their teeth getting stuck in our nappy greasy hair, as well as them there dogs taking a plug out of our arms, when we was marching for our civil rights back in the early 60th and early 70th .
Even back then black folks were living in overcrowded shacks behind the railroad tracks with no running water, black smoky coal to heat your stoves if you had one.
Black folks were swollen and pregnant with poverty back then and guess what that economic engine still haven’t started up yet today here in the twenty first century.
Drinking at black and white only water fountains, using black and white only restrooms.
Signs hanging above a sink like a picture in a frame tacked to a wall reading clearly BLACK ONLY, WHITE ONLY.
Now in small southern towns, hang men nooses swinging, hanging, dangling from old oak trees, reading racism with every green leaf.
The more things change the more things stay the same.
Relocated residents from public housing are poor, devastated, underrated, and totally underestimated and are becoming homeless at the drop of a politicians hat behind this big ambitious CHA Transformation Plan.
Condominiums, Townhouses and Lofts are tipping the scale on the low end while extremely low affordable housing is being whacked off like a mob hit in the most vulnerable areas where public housing once stood.
Little black and brown babies as well as their mothers who are on welfare such as TANF,SSI, PENSION, FOODSTAMPS AND tax credits jobs are franticly searching for places to stay that they can afford, all while schools are closing while we the black man was dozing, oh what a different a day make.
Chicago is the experimental ground and guess who are the little gray mice that trying to get the cheese.
Still yet today white men dressed in blue pin stripes suits, with corporate briefcases and so called black leaders setting in high prioritizes places, still have their whips up in the air as they drain the system of us by putting strict criteria’s on us that they know that we can’t pass.
Otherwise doing what they did in the days of old keeping the poor in their so called places.
Just like mama said “The more things change the more they stay the same!”equality to the black man struggles.Beauty Little Black Girl- By Ms. Beauty Turner“Hush little Black girl”
By: Ms. Beauty Turner

“Mama was from the country, born and raised on a farm, she knew about the Klan men and all the blacks they harmed.” She told me about the lynching them hanging Blacks from a tree,. “But mama if I don’t speak up we will never be free!”
“Hush little Black girl,” is what my mama said to me.
But mama if I stay silent how can I become all that I can be? “Hush little Black girl don’t you say another word, I know what you are thinking and it can lead to no good.” Mama, I use to say, just believe in me and pray, a change is going to come even for Blacks one sunny day, ‘If you go on speaking child, you will make white folks mad, and for other colored folks you might even make it bad!” Mama for slavery this world has to pay and that’s for real that is not for play! They bought our ancestors here in the bowels of ships, and when they cried out they were beat with whips! They were bonded with chains and banned from books to improve their brains and we are still feeling their lashes their whips their pain!”
They are taking all of our jobs away, and treating us like cats putting us out to stray! “They are taking all of our homes one at a time, treating us like being poor is a national crime.”
They are locking us up, putting us in jail, branding us with social issues, and social ill’s.
They took Anna May’s children and given them to the State, So I’m asking you mama how much longer much we wait?”
It’s the twenty first century and it is getting worse, so I say what I believe in from my birth to my hearse!”
‘At least you can say my child was strong when she look America in the eye and say DAM you’re wrong!”
I will keep on talking until freedom ring and all of God’s angels come out of the Heaven and sing!”
As sure as the earth be fertilized and her belly swell’s with seeds ,I speaking up for the next generation that just a fact a need!”
With all of the pain that Blacks have had to endure, Let Freedom and Justice ring from the crust of the earth, and Freedom and Justice be the twin babies that she birth!”Beauty Turnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15256886356635079535noreply@blogger.com0
